Suzanne B. Phillips
Dr. Suzanne B. Phillips, is a distinguished psychologist, psychoanalyst, and certified group therapist with in trauma response and disaster interventions. She holds the position of Co-Chair of Community Outreach for the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA), where she is also a Fellow and Board Member.
Dr. Phillips is Adjunct Full Professor of Clinical Psychology at the CW Post Campus of Long Island University, N.Y. and on the faculty of both the Derner Institute of Adelphi University and the Suffolk Institute for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. She has profound experience in international services and trainings on trauma response, disaster, and various critical events, including Covid-19, 9/11, earthquakes, and natural disasters in China, Haiti, India, and Italy. She also advocated for the needs of the military and military families, testifying before Congress in February 2008.
As the host of the international talk radio show "Psych Up Live" on the Variety Channel of Voice America, Dr. Phillips shares her experience in topics such as trauma, couples therapy, group response to disaster, bereavement, and healing and recovery in relationships. She is also a prolific author, having co-authored three books, including "Healing Together for Couples: A Couple’s Guide to Coping with Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress," and has written over 40 articles and book chapters.
Currently, Suzanne supports war-affected Ukrainian youth through group sessions at HealUkraine, a part of Brave Generation.
Richard Beck
Richard Beck is an esteemed Adjunct Lecturer at Columbia University School of Social Work, a distinguished psychotherapist in private practice in New York City, and a leading expert in trauma treatment for individuals, couples, and groups. He is President of the International Association of Group Psychotherapy and Group Process. He also serves as a Lecturer in Social Work in Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and holds the position of Professional Associate (Psychiatry - Social Work) at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
Recognizing his exceptional contributions, Richard was honored with the Social Responsibility Award by the Group Foundation for the Advancement of Mental Health. This prestigious award acknowledges AGPA members who have provided "Exceptional Acts of Service that have Benefited the Community at Large."
Richard's global outreach includes presentations and keynote lectures in cities such as Belfast, Ireland; Pretoria, South Africa; Cairo, Egypt; Istanbul, Turkey; Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia; Malmo, Sweden; Berlin, Germany; Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. His impactful work spans well over 1000 hours of trauma groups with survivors, families, witnesses, and rescue workers after the September 11th, 2001 terror attack. He also provided support after Hurricane Katrina, coordinating grief response after a crane accident in New York City, and participating in AGPA's response to a film company tragedy.
As the President of the International Association for Group Psychotherapy and Group Processes, a former AGPA Board Member, and Past-President of the Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society, Richard Beck continues to make significant contributions to the field of psychology and trauma treatment. Currently, Richard provides invaluable support to Ukrainian youth affected by the war in Ukraine through the group sessions at HealUkraine, a part of Brave Generation.
